Make a ‘where in the world is mommy/daddy’ quiz
You might not find the place exciting – and if you’re on a business trip, its probably not: just a dull string of taxi cabs, hotel rooms and meetings. But rest assured, wherever you are, the children you love will be interested – because, ultimately, it’s all about you, not the location. So, make the sadness of your departure a little easier to bare, with a fun quiz on the place(s) your visiting:
- Depending on the age of the children you love, you could send them some questions in advance (all at once or one a day) and have them research answers – you’ll probably even learn a few new things – and they’ll probably see more of the place than you!;
- Or, you could play the quiz at a pre-agreed time via video-call (asking all the questions at once or spaced out over a few days), topped off with a short YouTube video related to the questions you asked (if you’ve got two devices, just run the clip directly from one device, held up to the screen of the other. Alternatively, ask the caregiver/s left behind to play it on the home hotline (see tomorrow’s post) following your call).
- You could offer a surprise treat for quiz winners (make sure everyone wins!) from the place your visiting, for example a small memento, like a key ring or a cuddly toy in the form of a local mascot. Or you could pre-order a small book on the town, the local area or a local activity from Amazon.com – less baggage to carry and it might well arrive home before you do!
- Finally, consider a quick tour of something in the town, related to one of your quiz questions, via video chat, as a grand finale!
